           Diabetes is a chronic, long-lasting health condition that affects how your body turns food into energy. Your body breaks down most of the food you eat into sugar (glucose) and releases it into your bloodstream. When your blood sugar goes up, it signals your pancreas to release insulin. Insulin acts like a key to let the blood sugar into your body’s cells for use as energy. With diabetes, your body doesn’t make enough insulin or can’t use it as well as it should. When there isn’t enough insulin or cells stop responding to insulin, too much blood sugar stays in your bloodstream. Over time, that can cause serious health problems, such as heart disease, vision loss, and kidney disease. There isn’t a cure yet for diabetes, but maintaining a healthy weight, eating wholesome food, and being active can really help.

           Types of Diabetes:

            - There are no clear symptoms of Prediabetes. Blood glucose levels may be higher than normal but not yet high enough to be diagnosed. At this point, there are simple steps you can take to change things, such as adapting your food choices and increasing your physical activity to lose weight, if needed.

    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;

            Type 1 Diabetes
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            - Usually begins during childhood and adolescence, most often around puberty. Type 1 diabetes is thought to be caused by an autoimmune reaction where the body attacks itself by mistake. It is the most severe form of diabetes however only 5-10% of people with diabetes have Type 1.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Type 2 Diabetes
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

           Since our ability to cope with the effects of high temperatures, high humidity and hot sun goes down as we age, it is important for individuals with special health needs, older adults, their neighbors, friends, relatives and health care providers to pay attention to these important heat safety tips and work to put them into practice.

      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Do eat several small, light meals throughout the day.

            Do dress appropriately by wearing light colored, lightweight, loose clothing (cotton/synthetic blends).

           High blood pressure can have a huge impact on a person’s life. Last year, more than half a million deaths in the United States had hypertension as a primary or contributing cause. According to the CDC, nearly half of adults in the United States (116 million) have hypertension or are taking medication for hypertension. Only about 1 in 4 adults (24%) with hypertension have their condition under control.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

           Overall, the incidence of high blood pressure is about the same in men and women. However, there are gender differences between age groups. Lifestyle changes which can help reduce blood pressure, include maintaining a healthy body weight, regular exercise, quitting smoking and following a healthy low sodium diet rich in fruit and vegetables.
